According to the map: the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has awarded grants to 140 organizations across Northern California, 35 of which are located in Silicon Valley. The awards are meant to benefit the aree’s low-income children, youth and young adults. San Jose’s beneficiaries were the biggest winners, earning over $1.5 million in grants.
First Place for Youth is a national organization serving young adults exiting the foster care system, and Juma Ventures, which provides employment opportunities to low-income teenagers. Each earned $500,000 from the 50 Fund’s Game Changer program. One of five grant programs offered by the host committee, Game Changer awards aim to increase opportunities available to low-income Bay Area kids.
Other grant programs include PLAY 60, Play On, The Re(a)d Zone and Playmaker among others. According to the visualization on the map, the larger the blue dot the larger the grant received in this area. The areas receiving the biggest grants are: San Francisco, Alameda County and San Jose, followed by Milpitas, Palo Alto and Contra Costa County.
