This image is a trilogy of maps, displaying the battle for Mosul. The maps are split up by dates, one of them displaying before October 17, followed by October 19 and lastly October 28. This timeline represents how the Iraqi and Kurdish forces encircled the Mosul region, how several villages were taken from the jihadists and how new offensives and advances north of Mosul were surrounded.
On the right side, we can see the legend identifying the zones and forces. The zones include: Recaptured from IS group (striped in green and yellow), controlled by IS group before offensive (light blue with dotted outline), low population (striped blue) and disputed (orange).
The military base is marked with a white diamond / rotated square. Other elements on the map include the location labels for airports, Mosul, Qayyarah, Hamman al-Alil, Makmur, Khazir, Bashiqa, Tal Afar, Tal Kayf and the location where the IS group resupplied from Syria.
Below the maps it is indicated how many fighters were deployed at the start of the offensive, divided into Iraqi and Kurdish forces (30.000), US and allied forces (7.500), Turkey (2.000), and Jihadsts (3.000 – 5.000). The human toll as of October 28th is also marked, at least 12.000 have fled the fighting. There have been almost 1.000 fighters killed, of which 900 were Jihadists, 57 Iraqi soldiers and 30 Kurds.
